Aldersgate College Inc. (ACI), in partnership with Catalyste+, formally commenced the Day 1 training for the Point of Sale Automated Management (POSAM) System on September 16, 2025 at the Computer Laboratory, CSS Room 209. The session brought together faculty members, Information Technology students, and representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for a hands-on learning experience in preparation for the system’s institutional adoption.

The training began with the installation of XAMPP, the local server environment that supports the database and system functionalities of POSAM. Following this, the Catalyste+ Advisor, Ms. Carmen Gagnon, presented the POSAM framework, covering core processes such as orders, customer and employee management, payment workflows, and inventory tracking. Participants also engaged in document exchange exercises, assessing how manual forms currently used in the institution can be translated into the digital system.

Hands-on activities followed, where participants worked on preparing basic system settings, encoding inventory data, and exploring methods of transferring information from Excel spreadsheets into the database. This session provided a practical understanding of how the system could address inefficiencies identified during the needs assessment conducted in August 2025.

Despite the progress achieved, participants encountered several technical challenges during the training. Among the issues noted were difficulties in extracting ZIP files, the need to restart computers during installation, and hardware-related constraints. These challenges, however, became valuable opportunities for troubleshooting and collaborative problem-solving, further enriching the learning experience of both students and faculty.

The active involvement of DTI representatives, Ms. Precious Mae Marzan (Negosyo Center Business Counselor) and Mr. Arjar Mar Novida (SSF Project Coordinator/Alternate IT Focal), reinforced the collaborative spirit of the engagement, highlighting the importance of multi-sectoral support in digital transformation initiatives.

The training will continue in the following days, with sessions focused on customization and further development of POSAM features tailored to ACI’s needs.
