Aldersgate College, Inc. (ACI) successfully concluded its Seminar on Basic Research and Creative Work Ethics on August 19, 2026, with a substantive discussion on the vital role of ethics in the conduct of research and creative endeavors.
In his opening and inspirational message, Rev. Dr. Eduardo B. Copliting Jr., President of ACI, underscored the significance of research as a means of improving the lives of individuals and communities. He identified research as one of his priority areas and encouraged the participants to view the seminar as an avenue to learn, unlearn, and relearn ethical principles, deepen their understanding of responsible scholarship, and strengthen collaboration among institutions.
Dr. Copliting emphasized that these efforts are aligned with ACI’s commitment to its core values of academic excellence, social relevance, and spiritual nurturance. He likewise expressed his appreciation to Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), through its President, Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale Jr., for sharing the expertise of its research professionals and supporting ACI’s continuing efforts to strengthen its research culture.
The seminar’s concluding session, titled “Basic Research and Creative Work Ethics,” carried the theme “Promoting Integrity, Responsibility, and Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Endeavors.” The session was facilitated by Dr. Jonard I. Yago, Vice President for Research and Extension of Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), who shared his expertise and insights on the ethical responsibilities of researchers and creative practitioners in advancing knowledge and contributing meaningfully to society.
Dr. Yago emphasized that research should be grounded not only in competence and scholarly rigor but also in integrity, honesty, accountability, respect, and responsibility. He clarified the distinctions among research, creative work, and creative research, providing participants with a broader understanding of the ethical considerations involved in each area.
The session also addressed various forms of academic and research misconduct, including plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, improper authorship, and other practices that compromise the credibility and integrity of scholarly work. The discussion highlighted the importance of observing ethical standards throughout the research and creative work process—from conceptualization and data gathering to analysis, publication, and dissemination.
As the concluding session of the seminar, the discussion provided a meaningful synthesis of the preceding topics and reinforced a fundamental principle: quality research must always be accompanied by ethical conduct.
