Aldersgate College (ACI) recently hosted the first phase of Project DESIRE (Developing Entrepreneurial Students Innovating Rural Economy), a groundbreaking initiative designed to foster entrepreneurial thinking and innovation among students. The two-day capacity-building workshop, organized in collaboration with the University of the Cordilleras (UC) and the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PROCEDE), aimed to introduce ACI students to technology business incubation and design thinking.
Led by Dr. Thelma D. Palaoag, director of UC’s Innovation Technology and Transfer Office (InTTO), the program covered essential skills in program identification, framework building, and solution ideation to address key challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Student teams created impactful projects ranging from mental health web programs to sustainable water purification systems, presenting their ideas to judges in a pitch competition. Team Boni and Friends emerged as top performers, followed by Medics and Justitia.
