Aldersgate College Inc. Strengthens Educational Access through Book Donation Initiative in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya

Aldersgate College Inc. (ACI) has undertaken a significant educational outreach initiative aimed at advancing literacy and learning opportunities for underserved communities. In partnership with the Taraki With Love Foundation, ACI—through the Aldersgate College Community Extension and Social Services (ACCESS), led by Mrs. Prosperita Marites A. Matterig—successfully facilitated the donation of reference books to Cabayo Integrated School, Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, on August 8, 2025.

This collaborative effort was made possible through the leadership of Chief Librarian Mrs. Charline G. Barut and Assistant Property Custodian Ms. Jeanalyn C. Verano. The outreach team included Mr. Nelson M. Agustin, President of the Aldersgate College Employees Association; Mr. Jose B. Omingle, Head of Security and Safety; Mr. Marlon Romero, Custodian Aide; and Mrs. Carolyn A. Amaranto, former Vice President for Finance.

The journey to Cabayo Integrated School involved a challenging two-hour traverse of rugged mountain roads via a 4×4 vehicle, underscoring the geographic isolation of the community. Upon arrival, the team was warmly received by School Head Ms. Eleonor U. Davis, along with faculty members and students. The program featured an official turnover ceremony, preceded by the provision of meals, fostering camaraderie between the donors and the beneficiaries.

The donated reference books are poised to significantly enhance the learning environment for the school’s 120 students—comprising both elementary and secondary learners—particularly given the absence of electricity and the scarcity of instructional materials in the area. Teachers, who reside in on-site housing during the school week to mitigate the challenges of daily travel, expressed deep appreciation for the resources. These materials will not only supplement classroom instruction but also expand self-directed learning opportunities for students.

This initiative aligns directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, which advocates for inclusive and equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all. It also supports SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by addressing educational disparities in geographically disadvantaged areas.

Despite the arduous travel and physical challenges encountered, the enthusiasm and gratitude of the students and teachers reaffirmed the transformative value of the initiative. ACI likewise extends its gratitude to the Barangay Council of Cabayo, under the leadership of Barangay Captain Elmer Asim, for their logistical support, hospitality, and transportation assistance, ensuring the safe and successful delivery of the educational materials.

Through initiatives such as this, Aldersgate College, Inc. continues to demonstrate its commitment to community engagement and sustainable educational development, reinforcing the institution’s role as a catalyst for positive change in marginalized communities.
