Aldersgate College Inc. Partners with National Research Council of the Philippines and De La Salle University Manila to Launch RDLead FIRE Program with Groundbreaking Webinar on Agricultural Waste

On July 22, 2024, Dr. Rajeev Pratap Singh from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development
at Banaras Hindu University captivated an online audience with his groundbreaking insights into the
transformative power of agricultural waste. This enlightening seminar, part of the inaugural webinar
series for the RDLead Program, was conducted in partnership with Aldersgate College Inc., through its
Research and Development and Entrepreneurship (RDE) Cluster led by Dr. Cesar T. Medula Jr., Vice
President for Research and Development and Entrepreneurship; the National Research Council of the
Philippines; and De La Salle University Manila. The event was coordinated by Dr. Ronnie S. Concepcion II,
Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator, Department of Manufacturing Engineering and
Management, De La Salle University, Taft Ave, Malate, Manila, who is serving as the RDLead Program
Leader.

Dr. Singh expertly explored the complex interplay between soil acidity, nutrient availability, and waste
management. His presentation highlighted how the strategic recycling of agricultural waste can
significantly reduce soil acidity—a major barrier to robust plant growth. By detailing the nutrient profiles
of various agricultural by-products, Dr. Singh demonstrated their potential to rejuvenate soil health and
enhance farming systems.

The seminar not only showcased the environmental benefits of waste utilization but also encouraged a
shift toward sustainable agricultural practices. Attendees were inspired to adopt innovative strategies for
resource optimization and environmental stewardship, making the seminar a pivotal moment for
advancing agricultural sustainability.

This inaugural webinar marked the beginning of the RDLead Program’s mission to foster research and
development in sustainable agricultural practices, setting the stage for future collaborations and
knowledge sharing in the field.
