NV DELEGATES EXPLORE TRADITIONAL SALT-MAKING AT TAN INONG MANUFACTURING IN BOHOL

Alburquerque, Bohol — September 10, 2025. Nueva Vizcaya delegates gained firsthand knowledge of traditional salt-making during their visit to Tan Inong Manufacturing Corporation, a family-owned enterprise in East Poblacion, Alburquerque, Bohol. The highlight of the visit was the learning experience about the making of Asin Tibook, a centuries-old pre-Hispanic culinary treasure.

Tan Inong Manufacturing Corporation, known for preserving the intricate and labor-intensive process of producing Asin Tibook, welcomed the delegates with an orientation on the history, significance, and cultural heritage of salt-making in the community. The visitors witnessed how coconut husks are soaked in seawater, burned to produce concentrated ashes, and processed through filters before the brine is boiled in clay pots for hours to create the unique salt orbs.

The delegates expressed admiration for the company’s commitment to sustaining indigenous knowledge while providing livelihood opportunities to the local community. They also noted the importance of cultural preservation, sustainability, and food heritage, which resonate with broader goals of promoting inclusive socio-economic growth.

“Asin Tibook is not only a culinary product but also a living tradition that reflects the resilience and creativity of the Boholano people,” one delegate remarked.

The visit to Tan Inong Manufacturing formed part of the NV delegation’s exposure activities in Bohol, aiming to connect cultural industries and traditional practices with regional development strategies.
