Aldersgate College Incorporated (ACI) made a resounding impact at the 16th International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment, and Management (HNICEM 2024), held in Baguio City from November 27-29, 2024. With the visionary leadership of its Research, Development, and Entrepreneurship (RDE) Department through the Research and Development and Entrepreneurship Center (RDEC), the college showcased its growing influence in research and innovation through a significant and highly commendable presence. This participation of Aldersgate College in such a prestigious event marks a milestone in the institution’s academic journey, underscoring its commitment to global research excellence.
Through the initiative of the RDE and the unwavering support of the institution, which fully subsidized all expenses from the conference fees to the publication costs, Aldersgate College presented 15 meticulously curated research papers during the conference’s virtual sessions on November 28-29. These papers, authored by a blend of the college’s dedicated faculty and accomplished alumni, explored a range of topics from nanotechnology and industrial processes to sustainable development and education. The research presented not only highlighted the ingenuity and expertise of Aldersgate but also positioned the college as a vital contributor to global conversations about innovation and societal progress. The institution’s comprehensive financial support ensured that the researchers could focus entirely on their work without the burden of financial constraints. This full subsidy covered registration fees, travel expenses, accommodation, and publication fees, demonstrating the college’s commitment to fostering a thriving research environment.
One of the standout moments of Aldersgate College’s participation at IEEE HNICEM 2024 was the remarkable recognition of the paper “Quality and Acceptability of Ginger-Flavored Sugar Cookies, Butter Cookies, and Crinkles,” which won the Best Paper Award in the prestigious category of Nanotechnology, Manufacturing, and Industrial Processes. Authored by CBMA alumni Aiza Apostol, April Joy Buyayawe, and Mark Meinard Ortiz, with their adviser Daphne Sumila, this accolade not only honored the depth of their research but also highlighted the practical impact of their work. Their study delved into the fusion of culinary tradition with modern science, demonstrating how the introduction of ginger into classic baked goods can elevate both flavor and nutritional value. The research’s emphasis on consumer acceptability and product quality makes it a shining example of how academic innovation can lead to real-world, sustainable solutions. By bringing a scientific approach to everyday food products, their work exemplified how interdisciplinary research can drive innovation in industries such as food manufacturing and product development, creating opportunities for market expansion and environmental sustainability.
Beyond the recognition of their award-winning paper, Aldersgate College’s RDE team—Dr. Cesar T. Medula, VP for RDE; Mrs. Jovelyn Detablan, Director for Abaca Fiber, Mushroom, and Medicinal Plant Center; the OIC for RDEC; and Ms. Chelsey Joy Dacumos, RDE Research Specialist—attended the plenary session and banquet at Hotel Supreme in Baguio City on November 27. This networking event provided a vital platform for the team to connect with leading researchers and industry experts, fostering collaborative discussions and gaining insights into the latest advancements in science and technology.
Aldersgate College’s participation in IEEE HNICEM 2024 reflects its commitment to research excellence and innovation. With its vision of becoming a leader in entrepreneurial innovation by 2029, the college continues to provide valuable opportunities for its faculty, alumni, and students to engage with the global research community. This experience not only elevated the college’s international profile but also reinforced its role as a catalyst for innovation and academic growth.
